24 days of coffee Ristretto Espresso review by guest blogger Sweetly Spiced
Ristretto Espresso is conveniently located within Central Arcade, between King and William Street and is an incredibly popular thoroughfare during lunch hour. The food court at the Hay Street entry draws a flurry of activity from hungry punters. As I work conveniently close to Central Arcade, I knew of its offerings and was almost certain Ristretto did not have any immediate competition in the cult following / espresso café space.
I was spot on with the decent coffee. My small skinny cappuccino ($3.80) was delivered quickly and with a big smile. I had forgotten to request that the lid be kept off in the interest of a good photo, so I apologise for the slightly scruffy way the foam and sprinkled chocolate is presented.
The cappuccino was simply very good; the froth was perfect texture, not too airy and almost looked like beaten egg whites. The temperature could have been a bit hotter but that is my personal preference only, and there was very little bitter or burnt taste to either the beans or the milk.
Although the coffee was above average, the lack of atmosphere of Ristretto means unfortunately I cannot give a perfect score. There was no individuality or quirky touch that offered customers to connect with this space, making the experience feel very trade like and impersonal. Having said that, if I felt like stretching the legs a bit on my way to enjoy my next caffeine hit or in a bit of a rush, Ristretto would definitely be in mind.
