24 days of coffee Standing Room Only Specialty Coffee review
The best thing about featuring 24 days of coffee on foodie cravings is that I’ve found new coffee stops in the Perth CBD which haven’t been on my coffee radar. My most recent discovery is the Standing Room Only which is tucked away in the Piccadilly Arcade.
I find the name “Standing Room Only” in itself intriguing. Being a standing room (yep, there’s no seats), it’s the type of coffee stop that the hardcore coffee drinkers go for their shots of espresso – there’s no messing around here, you have your coffee and go. Being a latte kind of girl, the Standing Room Only is a bit out of my league, so I bravely entered with my bro last week during lunch.
On entry, I was a bit overwhelmed by the variety of coffee brews on offer, see coffee board below - they even have filter options which I haven’t seen before. I just ordered a take-away small latte for $3.80 from one of the baristas who had moved from the coffee machines to the little counter to take our order. My bro is off caffeine this month and although not liking our chances, we did check to see if they had decaf on offer. As expected and like most coffee stops in the Perth CBD, a decaf option wasn’t available.
As we waited for my coffee to be brewed, we observed our surroundings - everything was a light aqua including the coffee machine and grinders. It was cool that we didn’t feel like we were quite in the Piccadilly Arcade or the city for the 5 or so minutes we waited for my latte. We watched the baristas serve an espresso with a shot of water on the side to one of many hardcore coffee drinkers 🙂 I could clearly see the coffee at the Standing Room Only is made with heaps of passion and love for coffee.
The painted legs featured on the coffee bench, the guitar and t-shirt on the wall as featured below all added to the Standing Room Only’s funky atmosphere…
My latte was small but gee it had a good caffeine kick. I was bouncing the rest of the afternoon - taste-wise it was stronger than my usual preference but there was no hint of bitterness. It was also super hot so if you’re like 24 days of coffee guest blogger Sweetly Spiced, it’d be the perfect temperature for you. I like my coffee hot as I’m a slow coffee drinker but only if the take-away cups are thicker so that I don’t burn my hand on the walk back to the office.
If you have an appreciation for quality coffee beans and brewing methods, Standing Room Only is well worth the visit.
