Bonnie Boogaard’s food art featuring midnight snacks @ tu Stairwell Gallery!

I often get random cravings at odd hours of the night so Bonnie Boogaard’s email about her art exhibition Midnight Snack caught my attention yesterday. It may have also helped that it was before breakfast and I wondered why I was craving bacon & eggs the rest of the day 🙂

Inspired by how fun food can be, the different colours and textures and how some work well with others foods, Bonnie is excited to bring her Midnight Snack exhibition to Tu Stairwell Gallery.

Having foodie cravings all the time, I can completely relate with Bonnie and her midnight cravings…

“My midnight cravings are always the most bizarre things. Last night I was all for driving out in search of crumpets, but I’ve also done the same to get servo donuts, icecream, and onion rings. I have also been known to stay up until 2am baking cakes or my home made sausage rolls.”

Often my foodie cravings are triggered by something I see or smell. Bonnie tells me what cravings her art creates…

“People who see my art always tell me that they leave feeling hungry. I once made a giant cadbury chocolate rug and had to keep a block or two on stand by for hungry friends. This exhibition uses a wide range of food, so it will be interesting to see what foods they gravitate towards.”

Bonnie’s exhibition is free to view at Tu Stairwell Gallery and is open from 13 March to 2 April 2013. Tu’s opening hours are Monday – Thursday 10am – 6pm; Friday 10am – 7pm; Saturday 10am – 5pm; and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.

Being in Northbridge there’s plenty of food options before or after viewing the Midnight Snack exhibition. Bonnie suggests saving your appetite until after the exhibition and hitting up some of the locals. Some of her favourites include S & T Thai Gourmet Cafe for the tastiest Thai food and La Cholita for amazing tapas style Mexican.

Here’s some of my favourite Northbridge restaurants:

Aisuru Sushi or Bonsai for Japanese
Northbridge Chinese Restaurant or Regal on Roe for Chinese banquet or dim sum
El Compa for quality Mexican
Hawkers for a casual Malaysian
Mechanics Inc for drinks and burgers from flipside burgers
Lido for Vietnamese
Superstar Waffles or Meet Fresh for dessert
