El Asador – home to the best churros I’ve ever had!!

When El Asador opened the doors to their permanent premises on Bulwer Street, my travelling writer Martin from the UK made the bold statement that El Asador was “THE best barbecue food [he ever had]in Australia”. After personally dining at El Asador with my little family, I can indeed confirm the meats certainly made the cut and El Asador make the best churros in Perth!! Read Martin’s full meaty review of El Asador here.

On a personal note, I finally had the pleasure to meet Emily, long-time reader and one of the owners of El Asador Argentinean Grill last month. Watching Emily cook, serve and take orders that Thursday lunch was such a lovely reminder of the passion that comes with owning a small business as it mirrors how burger boy and I work in our own. These are our favourite must order dishes…

These guys make the best churros!

Yep I’m THAT person who looks at the dessert menu first before deciding on a main and entree. These soft melt in your mouth delights are an absolute must.

Unlike the usual thin churros you get anywhere else in Perth, El Asador’s churros ($6 each) are thicker, softer and bursting with dulce de leche (a thick super sweet creamy caramel). I savoured every bite and attempted to take away the half that junior burger didn’t finish. When I realised I had left it behind in the rush of things, I nearly cried!

El Asador best churrosNext up are the empanadas

The chicken & chorizo and the tomato & basil empanadas were both amazing! The pastry absolutely makes it or breaks it for me with empanadas. Delighted to add El Asador to 1 of 2 places I’d go for empanadas in Perth – their empanadas were crispy on the edges and soft enough to bite through to the tasty generous fillings. Even our fussy junior burger enjoyed the empanadas and she’s a harsh critic (she doesn’t eat defrosted or refrigerated curry!).

So much love for Tacos de Carne

Filled with a two day slow cooked beef brisket and served with a fresh chilli Mexican salsa, these tacos were to die for. My mouth was on fire in a good way!

Oh these brownies were a winner too

burger boy isn’t a man of many words when it comes to describing foods so this warm chocolate brownie ($8.50) must have made an impression. He thought this decadent dessert was a “good balance of sauce and icecream, not overly rich so I can eat a big piece”. I think the massive scoop of ice-cream and dulce de leche & chocolate sauce def won him over.

El Asador has a rustic dining space designed from recycled furniture with seating available inside, outside as well as a private dining room for small functions. At our little family lunch, I watched mums come in to have special one-on-one bonding time with their “child”. A reminder I need to set aside a day to do the same with junior burger after prekindy – these guys have half serve pancakes and half serve ice chocolates which junior burger would totally go crazy for. And of course, I would have to order the best churros in Perth (as soon as I’m off this dairy and egg free diet for baby cravings)!

El Asador is also a great takeaway and delivery option. Located on Bulwer Street just down the road from my mum’s place, I’m thinking we need to do a churros & empanadas night or a little picnic at Hyde Park soon.
