Lincolns 102 – one of my favourite cafes for breakfast in Mt Lawley

0

It is rare that eating out with my little family is relaxing but surprisingly it always is at Lincolns 102, one of my favourite cafes in Mount Lawley / Highgate.

The casual minimalist atmosphere with ample space inside and outside is perfect for my claustrophobic junior cravings (almost 4yo) who doesn’t like crowds and tables so close which make us feel like we’re sitting on top of each other.

Where is Lincolns 102?

Where: 102 Lincoln Street, Highgate (yes the name says it all!)
Telephone: 9228 1759
Parking: plenty of free street parking
Opening hours: everyday for breakfast & lunch 7am – 2:30pm
Eftpos: available
Family friendly: Yep – spacious, highchairs available and plenty of food on the menu for the kids
Caters for: Vegans and accommodates dietary requirements
Dog-friendly: Yep – water provided and plenty of outdoor seating

Being nestled amongst suburbia just off the busy Beaufort Street cafe strip seems to keep us all entertained. It was amusing to watch burger boy, junior cravings and even baby cravings people watch as they enjoyed their food. Also, there’s something as small as having a highchair with a tray table that made a difference for baby cravings (10mo) who now enjoys her finger foods which leaves me to somewhat enjoy my own meal (finally!).

Lincolns 102 has been on my to blog list forever so I was happy to be approached by Simtail to formally review Lincolns 102 as it was just the push I needed to move it up the priority list. The mountain of clothes can fold themselves!

A bit about Lincolns 102

Lincolns 102 has been around for 10 years but the current owner Richard has been running this Highgate cafe the last 2 years. In that time, Richard has doubled the dining space and given the menu a new lease of life. My first visit to Lincolns 102 was only in Richard’s time so I can’t comment on what the menu or space was like before but I love everything I’ve experienced here to date.

What we tried on Lincolns 102 menu

Lincolns 102 have an all-day breakfast menu available from 7am – 2:30pm every day and I always crave their lemon crepes so it wasn’t until this visit that I tried the lunch menu which is just as good!

Here’s what we had on our recent visit and why you need to try this hidden gem if you haven’t already!

Lincolns 102 – burger “The Big Smoke”

burger boy, of course, had the only burger on the menu! It took him no time to smash The Big Smoke which was filled with a grilled 180g beef burger, mixed leaves, fresh tomato, cheese, bacon, pickles, smokey tomato relish and aioli in a brioche bun ($23 with a side of chips).

junior burger had a half serve of scrambled free range Katie Joys eggs on toast ($7) with a side of hash browns and a Vanilla Milkshake ($6.50).

For those of you who have been following me on social media, you’ll know baby cravings has confirmed egg, milk and peanut allergy which has restricted my diet since February (I’m breastfeeding so whatever I eat passes onto her). Happy to say Lincolns 102 is always able to accommodate my restricted diet and I don’t feel like I’ve missed out as much.

On this visit, I had the Crispy Pork Belly Salad $20 twice cooked pork belly on green apple in a sticky Asian sauce served with a fresh slaw salad and a Pure & Healthy Mango Troppo Cold Pressed Juice ($9). The pork belly was beautifully caramelised, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside – the Asian sauce was full of flavour just the way I like it. There was a generous serving of salad for those of you who love your salad, I’m a bit of a carnivore so I didn’t quite get through all of my greens! Plus I thought it was great value – I’d expect to pay at least $25 – $30 for this dish elsewhere.

The last visit with my friend @foodieguide_lily, I had the Potato Rosti on greens with roast tomatoes, mushrooms and bacon instead of a poached egg topped with cappo coulis ($18) and a latte with almond milk. Though I must say after trying all sorts of cow milk alternatives, almond is my least favourite. I regretted not choosing soy.

The verdict

What I love about Lincolns 102 is the consistency and knowing that extra effort has been put into everything that is made because the owner Richard is always there. Every time I’ve been Richard is taking food out to customers, taking orders and there to answer any questions (my questions of late have been more complicated!). The food and coffee is good value, although I do think the cold-pressed juices were more on the expensive side but not out of the ordinary when compared to other Perth cafes. Oh for those of you with furry friends, your dogs are more than welcome with colour water bowls too!
