Tony Roma’s – home to the best Perth ribs!

We had a post-Christmas family rib feast at Tony Roma’s last night and boy I forgot how amazing the ribs were. The last time I went was for a work lunch a couple of years ago on a hot Summer day, I must say it’s much more comfortable eating ribs amongst family on a windier evening :)

We ordered a couple of entrees to share. The potato skins ($14.95) were super crisp on the outside and just scrumptious on the inside. Potato, cheese and bacon goodness topped with sour cream…

And everyone got right into the onion loaf ($13.50) except me as I’m not big on onion rings…

I also had my own special creamy potato, bacon and chives soup ($6.50), it was so good and what good value! It reminded me of this clam chowder (minus the clam) I used to have as a kid at Burswood Casino’s carvery (15 or so years ago before it became the Crown). The texture and flavours were pretty close – I could have gone a massive bowl of this…

We also had complimentary bread which comes with a yummy herb & garlic butter…

Tony Roma’s menu in burger boy’s words is “his kind of menu”…there’s just so much to choose from.

I ordered the St Louis half rack ($27.50) which comes with two sides and choice of sauce. I chose BBQ for my sauce and a corncob which I lathered with the leftover herb & garlic butter and the baked potato as my sides.

My pork ribs were covered in a super sticky sweet BBQ sauce and was so tender. It just fell apart with a touch of my fork.

burger boy had the St Louis Ribs with two fillet medallions ($44.50) cooked medium. He was very happy with how his steaks were cooked and pretty stoked to have also scored some ribs off mine and little miss bacon’s plates…

Pretty much our whole family had the St Louis ribs. This is my dad’s Star Studded Sampler ($47.50) which was a sample of the St Louis styled ribs, Original Baby Back Ribs and Bountiful Beef Ribs…

Tony Roma in my opinion is THE home to Perth’s best ribs. You can find my blog posts about other Perth restaurants serving American food here.

I have a separate compartment for dessert so after our family rib feast at Tony Roma’s, burger boy, my bro & little miss bacon headed off to the new Cold Rock in Northbridge…

Cold-Rock

This is my regular cup of apple sorbet mixed with sour worms and English toffee smashed with caramel fudge – it was sooooo good. At first I was a bit put back by the price (it was about $17 for three regular cups with an entertainment voucher for a free regular cup) but after seeing how generous they were and the massive ice cream and topping range - I can’t wait to go back for more!

foodie cravings

I’m a foodie who enjoys trying new food anywhere / any place (restaurants, cafes, bars, market stalls, fast food joints…anywhere just name it!) both in Perth, Western Australia and on my travels. I’m not your ordinary foodie, I’m often described as ‘fussy’ but I really really do love my food - I guess just not everything that’s put on my plate. Though, my other half, ‘burger boy’, eats most foods so I’ll be blogging about what he eats too…and as the name implies, burgers will be a regular foodie blog for all you burger lovers outthere. I love showcasing my yummy food finds with pics so I thought why not share my passion for food with other foodies with my blog, foodie cravings. Follow my food journey as I discover new keepers and rave about my all-time favourites.

I didn’t realise Tony Roma’s is also available in Australia. They were one of the few decent Western BBQ ribs place in Singapore and they were my Dad’s favourite ‘splash out’ restaurant. Nice to see their onion loaf and ribs look exactly the same here as they do back in the motherland.

If you were here for a bit longer Melissa - we would have loved to taken you on a Perth eating tour :) We see Tony Roma’s everywhere when we’re overseas and don’t eat it as often here but after our last visit, I think we need to plan another very soon.

    Dear MIchelle,

Good to see they do decent ribs in Perth. I thought the Tony Roma’s pork ribs in Sydney were mediocre compared to so many other awesome ribs restaurants and it’s no wonder they have permanently closed for business here.

What a shame that the standard at Tony Roma’s wasn’t up to scratch in Sydney which meant they had to close. I would love to see more Perth restaurants specialising in steaks and ribs - there was one which lasted a couple of years in Northbridge which I loved - was a bit cheaper than Tony Roma’s and had the best chocolate swirl dessert.
