Daniela e Stefania new Italian cookbook Saporito!

burger boy and I had the pleasure of meeting My Kitchen Rules Season 2 cousins Daniela and Stefania at Nespresso’s Perth Boutique Launch last year. We shared Italian food stories and chatted about burger boy’s family tradition of making tomato sauce in Uncle Paul’s Garage. Having met Daniela and Stefania, I was excited to hear they had taken their passion for food to the next level with the launch of their new Italian cookbook Saporito!

For your chance to win a copy of Saporito! hot off the press, simply like foodie cravings facebook page, sign up to receive foodie cravings by email and comment here with your favourite Italian meal by midnight WST Sunday 2 June 2013.

It was so lovely to see Saporito! filled with Daniela and Stefania’s beautiful family photos and to read the stories behind the homestyle recipes drawn from years of cooking with their Italian mums. The cookbook reflects the cousins’ love of family as much as their passion for cooking.

Here’s my interview with Daniela about her favourite Perth restaurant, My Kitchen Rules experience and advice for aspiring foodies looking to publish their own cookbook…

MKR Cousins Daniela & Stefania

What’s your favourite Perth restaurant?
I love Nobu at Crown. Just love the intricacy of fresh Japanese food.

What was your best and worse moment on MKR?
Best moments were the two people’s choice awards we won for the kids festival and the farmers… absolute awesome feeling. The worst moments were getting bad critiques and feeling like your food wasn’t good enough but missing my kids tops it all.

What’s your advice for aspiring foodies wishing to create their own cookbook?
To create a cookbook you need a passion for food and patience. You also need the best photographer and team to bring your food to life, and a good eye!

What’s your favourite Italian dish to cook for the family?
Wow that’s a huge question - I love to cook everything and anything Italian for my family and friends

Where to from now?
Wherever our passion for food takes us we will ride along with it, stay tuned, a travelling cookbook maybe on the horizon?

We bought burger boy’s Italian mamma Saporito! for Mother’s Day, I can’t wait for her to cook us Daniela and Stefania’s Pavlova roll with mango and passionfruit and the Italian doughnuts recipes. You can find Saporito! for $34.99 at most good bookstores including Dymocks or online via UWA Publishing (postage is free).

We all enjoy lasagna. So, this is something I make quite a lot. Freezes up well too.

    FB & Email Subscriber.

  2. Spaghetti with prawns, lemon, chilli, garlic and rocket leaves - it’s my Friday night favourite - Bellissimo!

  3. My brother in law does the best italian pasta meal, with chorizo sausages, tomoato, oinion and lots of garlic, it’s a bit of a secret receipe, so I have to wait for him to make it, but its delicious!!!

Lasagne. I make the best one ever. Takes a few hours, lots of extra ingredients but is worth the effort. The lasagne dish weighs a tonne when I take it out of the oven and feeds around ten people!!

  5. I love homemade bread cooked in a woodfire oven serviced with fresh homemade antipasto. Salami, olives, sundried tomatoes, cheese, bocconcini, olive oil with balsamic. Glass of red wine, out on the back verandah with family and friends. How much more perfect can you get!

  6. Pasta is our favourite, there are so many different flavours that can be added and it can be very quick, easy and delicious!

  7. Bruschetta with homemade tomato pesto. When we have an abundance of tomatoes we get together as a family to make homemade pesto. Its enjoyed with a few glasses of wine and lots of messy fun for the whole family

  8. Risotto Milanese - I make it well but it’s nothing on my Nonna’s! She was an amazing cook and this was her signature dish. She always made it for special occassions and family get -togethers and we so looked forward to it!

A sweet strawberry topped pizza covered with lashings of cream washed down with an extra strong espresso!

    • I cannot resist a good Pasta Alla Genovese! My friend’s Italian Dad makes the best I have ever tried. As a result, I’m always coveting for a dinner invitation to her place.

  10. Pasta with fresh homemade tomato sauce and meatballs, yes I know so boring, but I simply can’t do without it!!! I would love to try the recipes in “Saporito” especially since the ladies are from the same region of Italy as my parents were.
