This list of Perth gift ideas was originally written specifically for Christmas but I’m sure they’d be perfect for any occasion either as a stand-alone gift or bundled together in a hamper. Keep scrolling if you’re looking for gift ideas for your favourite foodie.
Avo Shark - this cool avocado remover kitchen gadget by VGM International would make a great stocking filler or secret santa gift. I normally make a mess cutting avocados so I love that the avo shark is all I need to wash! Plus every time I cut an avocado it looks pretty neat. You can pick up an Avo Shark for $14.95 at Kitchen Warehouse, Myer and Wheel and Barrow Homewares.
BBQ Dragon - my brother & writer Jason loves coal barbecuing. He recently tested the BBQ Dragon out and reckons it’d be the perfect present for any Coal BBQ lover as it reduces the amount of time it takes to light up the coal by delivering a large volume of low velocity cool air to the coals. It usually takes him about 30 to 45mins with redheads firelighters to get the coals ready for cooking whilst using the BBQ dragon, it took about 10-15mins for the coals to be ready. You can pick up the BBQ Dragon from Bunnings for $59.95.
BBQ buddy Smart Meat Thermometer - my brother also tested out the thermometer which he reckons “is one of the coolest BBQ devices on the market”. It uses bluetooth to transmit the temperature of your meat to the accompanying SmartThermo app available on Android/iPhone. He said it’s a really handy device, whether it’s that chicken breast or fish that you don’t want to overcook or that steak that you want medium rare. All you have to do is select the meat you are cooking on the BBQ and the app will let you know when the meat has reached the right temperature. The BBQ Buddy Smart Meat Thermometer is available from Bunnings for $39.85.
Bessemer cookware - if you’re looking for a big ticket Christmas present, I absolutely love my stove-induction Bessemer cookware. The quality is fantastic and the food just slides off it, making cleaning super quick.
The 5l casserole pot with a steam vent lid is my favourite as it’s perfect for dinner parties. Read my Bessemer cookware review for more details and my mother-in-law’s shakshuka recipe.
Cooking class with Red Hot Spatula, Shikisai Perth Japanese Cooking School or go all out and book your loved ones into Jamie’s Ministry of Cooking’s 7 week course ($140) at ECU Joondalup. You can book online here.
Or for something different, book them into Edgecombe Brothers asparagus masterclass - it was one of the most educational and fun classes I’ve done. Read my Asparagus Masterclass post for more details.
Dishes 2016 Calendar - each month features a recipe by Australia’s top chefs - my fav is La Scala on Jersey’s Messimo Mele’s gnocchi with skull island prawns, fresh tomato, garlic, basil & chilli. I gifted my 2016 Dishes Calendar to burger boy’s Italian mum in hope she’ll cook up the recipes featured for us 🙂
All proceeds from these calendars goto supporting Restore One, a charity in support of women in Cambodia. You can order a Dishes Calendar online for $34.95 plus shipping.
Sophie Zalokar’s Food of the Southern Forests Cookbook - this is such a beautiful cookbook, the recipes are uniquely Western Australian with a focus on the Southern Forests. The stories behind the producers and background on the origin of each key ingredient used is what makes this cookbook stands out.
It looks great on my coffee table too. Food of the Southern Forests is available online from UWA Publishing for $59.99, delivery is included.
Hackit - this is one of my favourite kitchen gadgets, rather than breaking up mince with a wooden spoon which takes forever, I just hack away. It’s so much quicker. You can pick up a Hackit for $19.95 online at www.hackitaustralia.com.au, Kitchen Warehouse in Western Australia and at King of Knives (nationally). Read my Hackit review for other ways it helps me out in the kitchen.
Mrs Fields cookies - if you’re doing your shopping in the city, order a personalised Christmas cookie cake ($39.95) from Carillon city. It takes a few hours if you’re planning to wait or you can order in advance.
I got a cute santa bucket with Mrs Fields cookies ($14.95) for my secret santa gift. Must say I was tempted to eat the cookies whilst shopping for everything else! Check out Mrs Fields website for cooking cake designs and to order online.
Perth restaurant vouchers - most of my Christmas presents always end up being vouchers. My favourite Perth restaurants who offer vouchers include The Laneway Lounge and Must Wine Bar.
Our crust gourmet pizza bar in Mount Lawley also have pizza gift cards which our customers tend to buy as stocking fillers.
Recipes & Ramblings community cookbooks - Recipes & Ramblings cookbook series was launched in 2012. Recipes for these gorgeous cookbooks were submitted by local residents, chefs, businesses, prominent figures and people who have a genuine love for Beaufort Street.
Beaufort Street Network’s community cookbooks serve as a memoir of the community’s love for dining and cooking captured in stunning photography and accompanied by delightful rambles. These cookbooks are the hard work of local Perth foodies who had donated their time, skills and keen taste buds! I was very excited to have my mum’s original Mango Pudding Recipe and my ramblings published in Beaufort Street Network’s Recipes & Ramblings Volume II and our Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar’s 1889 Margherita in Volume III. You can buy all three for $40 or separately via Beaufort Street Network’s website
Riki Kaspi’s spice range - the slow cooked moroccan beef and couscous with orange zest, berries, silvered almonds & Moroccan is my favourite.
