When I heard Miguel Maestre from The Living Room was coming to WA, I knew I had to make my way to meet him. I don’t usually get too excited about celebrities or famous people but The Living Room is one of the few shows I watch and love. burger boy has enough trouble getting my attention away from the laptop let alone the TV!
So Miguel will not just be visiting WA, he will be cooking up a Spanish Fiesta in York on Saturday May 25 as part of the York Weekender Gourmet Food & Wine Series. If you are keen to meet Miguel, you can buy tickets to his Spanish Fiesta online.
I was excited to have the opportunity to interview Miguel. My interview is featured below…
What was the very first dish you cooked?
Churros con Chocolate - we used to have them for breakfast when I was little and my mum taught the traditional recipe but recently I have modified the recipe to my own.
What will you be cooking at your Spanish Fiesta in York?
Paella a la Maestre, my famous Churros con Chocolate and a spanish selection of tapas with an Australian flavour.
Gourmet is a very loose term, what do you think makes a dish gourmet?
For a dish to be gourmet it needs to be a refined dish with excellent cooking techniques and using prime quality produce. Now a days the word gourmet is used too frequently and weakening the real meaning of the word.
What’s your favourite Western Australian restaurant?
Unfortunately, I have only ever been to Western Australia once and it was for work. I didn’t get to experience any of the delicious restaurants but I look forward to trying them very soon when I visit.
Western Australian foodies - which restaurants would you recommend Miguel Maestre?
What do you love about co-hosting The Living Room?
What I love the most about The Living Room is I get to be myself and show food to people in a different way making it fun and more accessible through cooking challenges, local/regional food stories and international fascinating food trends.
