Looking for a place to wine and dine with good company and food in North Perth? You can add Blake Street Merchant to your list of top North Perth restaurants to visit. Blake Street Merchant is a local store in North Perth with a cool and hip setting that oozes a relaxed atmosphere and serves up daily brunch, sweet treats, charcuterie and drinks. We recently visited the family-owned business to kick off the cool season with a long table dinner.
Now Gin and Tonic lovers, I suggest you get your hands on a Gintonica with bulldog gin, fever tree aromatic tonic, lemon and rosemary that gave it a refined touch. It was my favourite drink of the night!
Upon entrees being served up, passionate Head Chef Navarre made an appearance telling us about the Blake Street Merchant sourdough made in-house along with the Blake Street Merchant honey extracted from their very own rooftop! And his not-as-pleasant bee stings.
To start off we got to taste the house-made Blake Street Merchant sourdough, cultured butter accompanied with parfait, pickled zuni and beer mustard. You could give me a basket of their bread and butter and I’d happily have it all day long. Parfait, on the other hand, I was quite nervous trying (as you may previously know of my ox tongue experience), but I gave it a go. My boyfriend loved the parfait, however, I was a bigger fan of the crispy squid with fried bread, romesco & raddichio.
My favourite entrée that night was definitely the Jerusalem artichoke with roasted thyme butter, stracciatella and verde! The artichoke had a beautiful smoky flavour and was complimented by the verde.
I was super excited when this beautiful lamb shoulder with cauliflower, almonds and chimmi churri hit the table. And yes… it tasted as heavenly as it looks. Delicious and succulent lamb that was packed with flavour and melt in your mouth. Possibly one of the best lamb dishes I’ve ever had! The lamb had a smoky flavour and the sauce tied the dish together. It was definitely my dish of the night! The roasted Goldband Snapper with chickpea, tomato & fennel was nice and flaky, along with a house salad and fries with a rich and tasty sauce.
For dessert, we were treated with a Sailors Rest cocktail of sailor jerry spiced rum, cherry liqueur, lime, pineapple and ginger beer. As delicious it looks and sounds it was a bit too strong for me, but I’m sure ginger lovers would give it a big thumbs up.
The desserts hit the table and it was visually stunning. Blake Street Merchant honey mousse with peanut butter fudge that was nice and light. The Caramel & Almond pie with passionfruit and cream was also a delight and had a good balance between crunch and chew.
Blake Street Merchant is one of our favourite North Perth restaurants. It is great for family and friends catch-ups and also date nights. With its stunning interior, lovely staff and great food (and delicious gin), it was a wonderful evening and dinner. Did I mention the awesome on-site parking?
To top off the awesome night we left with a loaf of the delicious Blake Street Merchant sourdough and honey. A couple of days and 1 loaf of sourdough later, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed the bread with a couple of different homemade meals I had. I found it was the perfect bread to soak up gorgeous saucy dishes. I cut the sourdough into thin to medium slices and toasted them up on a pan over the stove. Amazing! The Blake Street Merchant sourdough is available fresh daily until sold out.
Blake Street Merchant is located at 4 B&C Blake St in North Perth. They are open Sun-Wed 7:00pm – 5:00pm and Thu-Sat 7:00am – 11:00pm. Visit www.blakestreet.com.au for the full menu.
