If you are looking for Paella in Fremantle head to Eat Street in the Fremantle Markets! Since 2012, Eat Street has been dishing up gorgeous Spanish paella, which is cooked in an ample sized open kitchen. The three enormous paella pans on display at Eat Street are certainly impressive and catch the eye of passers by. The pans used are shallow with sloping sides to ensure the rice cooks evenly and develops an intense flavour.
The seafood paella is underway whilst the chicken paella is cooked and ready to go.
Eat Street’s paella in Fremantle smells amazing and is freshly cooked on the day of trade. The key ingredients - saffron, bomba rice and paprika are imported from Europe, which adds to the authenticity.
Chicken, chorizo and corn paella - $9.50 medium serve / $12 large serve
My tasty sample of the chicken, corn and chorizo paella.
I sampled the free-range chicken, chorizo and sweetcorn paella and it was just as I remember from my travels to Spain. The bomba rice Eat Street use is the most prestigious variety and absorbs the liquid well but stays relatively firm during cooking. The rice takes centre stage and the other ingredients don’t detract or overpower but rather complements the overall dish.
Pizzas are also on offer at Eat Street and are freshly prepared in front of you. With a thin, crispy base (my favourite kind), the toppings are generously scattered. With the cheese melted just so, the mozzarella had that delicious stretch to it with every mouthful.
Eat Street - Fremantle pizzas are made to order
My pizza cooked and ready to eat.
Eat Street’s Spicy Sausage came recommended. Topped with calabrese sausage, fresh chilli, olives and capsicum ($10) with the chilli adding a powerful punch - it was delightful. I shared it with my husband and son who both enjoyed it immensely (although my son had to dodge the chilli). If you prefer something a little milder, they have the classic Margharita, or you can create your own from a variety of toppings.
