When you hear the names Colin Fassnidge and Miguel Maestre, you know you’re in for a treat. These two are the head chef line-up for Taste Great Southern 2017! TAKE MY MONEY!
The Taste Great Southern 2017 festival runs from now until 9 April 2017. If you’re looking for a short break and wouldn’t mind fantastic food and wine while you’re at it, keep reading!
Taste Great Southern 2017 includes festivals, markets, degustation dinners and lunches, coffee and spirit sessions, master classes and community events and lots of wine!
If I were attending Taste Great Southern 2017, these are definitely some of my top picks I’d be heading to.
1 - Rockcliffe Night Market (Friday March 24, 5pm to 8pm)
I absolutely love night markets. Nothing’s more exciting than the moment you smell amazing aromas of delicious food in the making. Here you will meet local producers, enjoy cooking displays from the great Miguel Maestre and Anna Gare. Of course, you’ll also get to savour local delicacies to eat and take home in this free family friendly event!
2 - Junkyard Feast (Saturday 1 April, 6pm - 10pm)
A junkyard feast sounds right up my alley. Here you can enjoy the amazing rustic setting of Wilson WA and be presented with a gourmet banquet straight from the flames of the giant barbecue! Not tempted yet? It will be hosted by local, Anna Gare, with guest chefs David Coomer, Scott Brannigan and Guy Jeffreys! The night will be filled with fantastic flavours and fine wines.
3 - Liberty Garden Party (Saturday, March 25, 6pm to 11pm)
Anything involving a BBQ feast has my attention! A walk down the garden path at the Liberte, London Hotel in Albany is perfect on a Saturday afternoon. A picnic style long table BBQ feast with a gorgeous set up - sign me up! It will showcase the new wave of Great Southern food and wine producers making magic happen from their own backyard.
4 - Taste of Gnowangerup (Friday, March 31, 6.00pm – 9.00pm)Although I like my loud festival and market kind of nights, I do enjoy a relaxed dinner. Kiren Mainwaring will be cooking up and presenting this one! Fine dining and indulging in a 3 course meal showcasing fresh locally sourced produce sounds good to me. Although would be interesting to see how fine dining and country themed dinner would turn out!
5 - Taste of Dumbleyung (Saturday 1 April, 3pm - 12am)
‘Fresh from the farm’ lamb cuts, yabbys, cheese, dukka, oils, breads and creative quinoa deserts… this mouth-watering menu certainly has my attention. The 2017 Taste of Dumbleyung Food & Wine Show is a FREE FAMILY EVENT to make an unforgettable weekend filled with water recreation, free camping and plenty more to do and see!
I have to mention, if I were a wine drinker (and not a student on a budget) the Fervor & Skyhook Helicopters Picnic on Breaksea Island (Friday, March 31, 10am to 3pm) would interest me. An exclusive 15-minute scenic helicopter flight to Breaksea Island sounds divine itself. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to experience Albany like never before. Beer and wine, canapés and not to mention the breathtaking view from up above. For all you wine lovers - what’s not to love? (Besides the price perhaps).
For those who are unable to make it down south but don’t want to miss it out on the good wine, good news! The Great Southern Wine Market will be held at Perth’s State Buildings on Saturday April 1.
Get amongst it food & wine lovers!
