Entwined In the Valley is back again and ready to deliver Perth foodies a weekend full of delicious meals, interesting events and memorable experiences throughout the Swan Valley region. With this year’s focus being on humane food, November 4 - 6 are dates to put in your calendar!!
Headlining this year’s Entwined in the Valley is ‘’The Punk Princess of Pastry’’ Anna Polyviou! With over 16 years experience and numerous awards under her apron, those with a sweet tooth are in for a treat. There is also an exciting mix of West Australian Chefs including Hadleigh Troy of Amuse in East Perth, Kiren Mainwaring of Co-Op, Michael Hartnell of Mandoon Estate, Caroline Taylor of Taylors and Ray Jordan of Sommelier. As a Swan Valley local I am especially excited about Michael Hartnell attending as Mandoon Estate is always amazing!
Without further ado, here are my top picks for Entwined in the Valley 2016…
#1 - Entwined In The Valley Degustation Dinner with Anna
This seven course dinner has been calling my name since I found out the chefs that would be headlining Entwined in the Valley. Held at Mandoon Estate I know that this event is not to be missed. I expect a night filled with new flavours and tastes that I have only dreamed off. Knowing that all local and humane produce will be used only makes this dinner more appealing to me! All courses will be paired with Swan Valley wines by wine writer and aficionado, Ray Jordan. Having visited Swan Valleys wineries many times I know that my high expectations will only be exceeded by the quality. I am most excited though about experiencing Anna Polyviou’s take on the classic Eton Mess which she simply names ‘The Mess’. After having her Carrot Cake named as Best Dessert in Australia in 2014 I can only imagine the beautiful and delicious goodness that will be produced on the night. As it is Anna’s first time in WA you do not want to miss the opportunity to attend, I surely won’t as I hear her Dessert Degustation has an enviable waitlist!

Where: Mandoon Estate, 10 Harris Road, Caversham
Cost: $250 per person, 10% discount for group bookings of 10

#2 Free Range Flicks
Kicking off the weekend is Free Range Flicks on the Friday Night, here guests will get to enjoy local beers, spirits and wines as well as food whilst watching a movie on the big screen. This event is held at the Henley Brook, which is 70% why it is my second pick as I love it there! The Henley Brook only opened this year but let me tell you as a Swan Valley Local this place is always busy as the atmosphere, food and drinks are always great. The best part is it is a free event! Pizzas and beverages can be purchased on the night which I highly recommend as their pizzas are a flavoursome delight. I love the sound of this event as it is different to anything else on during the weekend and spending a night out in the beautiful Swan Valley enjoying pizza whilst watching a movie is my perfect kind of Friday night.
When: Friday November 4th @ 6pm
Where: The Henley Brook, 9810 West Swan Road, Henley Brook
Cost: Free (but bookings are essential)
Bookings: Call 9296 2985 or visit thehenleybrook.com.au
#3 Anna’s Mess Masterclass
It was tough to decide whether this was my 2nd or 3rd pick as I love the sound of both events so much. Anna Polyviou ‘The Punk Princess of Pastry’ and Entwined In The Valleys special guest, will be holding a masterclass teaching guests how to create her signature dish ‘Anna’s Mess’. This event appeals to me for two reasons, firstly, I love anything sweet and secondly, I love to make desserts myself so I can only imagine how much there is to learn from such an expert. Not only will guests get to create the dessert they will also enjoy a high tea with Swan Valley sparkling wines, I don’t know about you but if someone says high tea I am there! Eat, create and learn, what sounds better? Five lucky participants will also then get to smash the mess in order to go into the running to win an appliance from Kenwood.
When: Saturday November 5th @10:30am
Where: Caversham House, 141 Caversham Avenue, Caversham
Cost: $120 per person
Bookings: www.entwinedinthevalley.com.au
#4 Chocolate & Wine Tasting Masterclass
My 4th pick has to be on the list as would it really be a Swan Valley event without a chocolate tasting! Attendees will get the chance to experience a wine and chocolate tasting masterclass whilst also getting a bottle of Chocolate Liqueur to take home. Margaret River chocolate is definitely one of my favourite treats and I have had numerous melt in your mouth moments with it, so I can only imagine how good it will taste paired with the best of Swan Valley Wines. Chocolate, liqueurs and wine will be available in the class so there will be something for everyone to experience. This event is a mere $30 to attend which when you think of the fact you score a $24.95 chocolate liqueur to take home, it’s good value for money.
When: SAT 5 & SUN 6 November @11:30am
Where: Providor, 5123 West Swan Road, West Swan
Cost: $30 per person
Bookings: www.entwinedinthevalley.com.au
#5 Brewed Laughter
Last on my list is an event perfect for a Saturday night especially if you want it filled with laughter, beer and tapas. Held at the Ironbark Brewery I think this event will be great to attend and will ensure you are really getting to experience all the Swan Valley has to offer as it is not only the wines that make it so famous. The event is held by a comedian which is exciting and interesting in itself, but the brewery’s famous beers will also be available for tasting whilst you enjoy a tapas style dinner. I love the sound of this event as it is so different from the others available which I believe will be refreshing, especially for the men. This event will be great to ensure you have a weekend that will give you a variety of fun and interesting memories. It also appeals to me as I have locked in the Degustation dinner for the Sunday so spending the night before relaxing, enjoying delicious food and beer whilst laughing the night away sounds great.
When: Saturday November 5th @7pm
Where: Ironbark Brewery, Valencia Complex, 55 Benara Rd, Caversham
Cost: $55 per person includes: comedy show, beer tasting and tapas dinner

Entwined In The Valley has over 14 events throughout the weekend. Shanks and Shiraz, Asparagus Masterclass, Seafood & Sparkling and RiverBank Jazz all sound fantastic too.
