Tapas & wine at Amphoras Bar for Sweet M’s birthday

4

Tuesday felt like Friday last week when we celebrated my colleague Sweet M’s birthday with an impromptu lunch at Amphoras Bar in West Perth.

We started with a glass of 2009 Bress Pinot Noir ($9)…

One of the girls had an espresso martini, which looked amazing…

Between the 6 of us we shared the following tapas…

2 servings of the roast pumpkin and buffalo mozzarella arancini balls with Amphoras house pesto ($16 per serve).

The outside had a delicious crisp that slightly crunches as you bite into the arancini. The inside was moist and the combination of the pumpkin and mozzarella was delicious – tasted amazing dipped in the pesto.

The wagyu meat balls ($22) was my pick and I’m usually quite fussy with meatballs as burger boy’s Italian mama makes it so well but it was different in texture and taste so I couldn’t compare like for like. The sauce was thickish and the meatballs were deliciously filled with cheese. Tasted great with the bread!

Three of the girls absolutely loved the wild sautéd mushrooms and spinach topped with parmesan and crusty bread ($16). Sweet M & I don’t eat mushrooms and just helped out with the bread.

The zucchini and haloumi fritters were light and tasty ($15)…

I love my dessert but nothing really stood out for the girls & I do recall the $15 dessert tasting plate being quite small in serving last time.

It was a lovely lunch and cost us $30 each. We all had an alcoholic drink each and left content. I’m a big eater so I was impressed that I wasn’t hungry until 5pm that day - dishes were of a decent size/filling. If I was just with burger boy I think we would have ordered the same amount as what I did with the girls

Loved the décor, ambience, service, food & drinks – I’ll be definitely be back!
