My hubby surprised me with a lunch at Red Herring in East Fremantle on Sunday for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We were spoilt with a beautiful view of the river in a romantic corner of the restaurant.

I had the three course meal ($68) below which I thought was pretty good value as the portions were decent and I was not only extremely full after lunch but the flavours were incredible and I couldn’t stop thinking about it (we didn’t have dinner that night!):

entree
Salt & pepper squid, herb salad, homemade chilli sauce

The squid was cooked really well, it wasn’t chewy and there wasn’t too much batter/oil. The homemade chilli sauce wasn’t very chilli and tasted great with the squid.

main course
salmon fillet with lemon butter sauce on a bed of potato mash and snow peas

I customised the main meal a bit, as the salmon usually comes cooked medium-rare and I eat everything well-done. I also added the lemon butter sauce to it – I think it normally comes without sauce. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the snow peas (which I don’t normally eat) were cooked to perfection – it wasn’t at all chewy.

dessert
Vanilla pannacotta with mango puree and cranberry granita

The dessert was the highlight, the pannacotta just melted into my mouth, the mango puree was the perfect match and the granita was a good ending to an amazing dessert.

My hubby had the pork belly for entrée and the red emperor as his main. The pork belly I thought was the highlight – flavours were to die for, the red emperor was nice but could have been slightly larger.

To top it off we had an entertainment card so the bill came to $124 including a beer and wine (nice glass of watershed sauvignon blanc) – not bad for a fabulous fine dining experience. I will definitely be coming back, thanks for a wonderful foodie experience Red Herring !

One Response to Celebrating our wedding anniversary with lunch at Red Herring in East Freo

  1. [...] If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know all about my obsession with pannacotta! The bindoon passionfruit pannacotta was the first thing I spotted on Cantina’s menu when we arrived and it was everything I had hoped for in a pannacotta! The pannacotta was firm, the passionfruit flavour was delicious and the milk chocolate ice-cream complimented the pannacotta wonderfully. It came pretty close to my Red Herring Pannacotta Experience!
