My birthday celebrations continued with brunch at Wild Fig Café this morning :)

To start, I had a latte which had a light creamy texture and enough caffeine to wake me up - a great Sunday coffee. I also ordered the jungle love smoothie which was a yummy blend of mango, passionfruit, pineapple and ice-cream $7.8. It tasted like dessert and I love dessert so it was a definite winner. It was just hard trying to resist filling up on it whilst waiting for our Grizzly Bear Pancakes. My friend had her usual pink panther juice $7.8 which was a tropical blend of pink grapefruit, strawberry and watermelon.

I’m usually very boring and just have the egg benedict as I like to keep my savory and sweet flavours separate - especially in the morning and I’m quite fussy with my bacon & eggs. But I’ve been working myself up all week to break the routine and try the Grizzly Bear Pancakes which is bacon & eggs cooked to your liking served with Canadian pancakes and maple syrup $18. At first glance, I wasn’t sure if I would liked the savory & sweet blend that arrived in front of me…but as encouraged by my friend I dipped my bacon in the maple syrup and ate it with the pancakes and to my amazement the flavours did work!

It was my first time having bacon and scrambled eggs at the Wild Fig and I can’t say I liked them as much as I do the egg benedict. The bacon is full of fat (I like rindless bacon) and we had asked for it to be cooked so that it was crispy which didn’t happen, according to my friend 50% of the time the chef cooks the bacon as requested, other times it is served as is. The scrambled eggs were a bit overcook, tasted ok but a little dry, burger boy cooks them better, we make ours with butter & cream which makes them nice & fluffy.

My favourite Wild Fig breakfast, the benedict $17.2 on the other hand, is always cooked to my liking and tastes amazing. The poached free range eggs, grilled ham, spinach, cassalinga, tangy hollandaise are all cooked to perfection - the hollandaise sauce makes it! Will have to post a photo of it next time I visit the Wild Fig.

Wild Fig is one of my favourite cafes to go for breakfast. I can now say I’ve tried the Grizzly Bear Pancakes but I will be going back to be being boring and ordering my egg benedict from now onwards!
