I had actually started writing this post on my iPhone whilst sipping my freshly crushed orange juice @ the Subiaco Farmers Market under a marquee at 11:55am (markets close at 12:30pm) whilst my mum was enjoying her $1 per minute massage which by the way she highly recommends. The masseur is very good and if we had more time I would have had one too…

Anyway starting from the beginning of our foodie journey, we got to the Subiaco Farmers Market around 10.45am this morning and headed straight for my favourite food stall Tom the Greek and ordered the spinach & feta pita ($5) which was yummy as always. Normally I order the feta pita too but they ran out by the time we got there - must make note to come earlier next time! Tom the Greek also sells home-made shortbread biscuits which tastes almost as good as nanna’s (the moon shape ones), mum normally buys a box or two but has said that nanna made her a bunch last week.

After eating our Greek pitas, we went and checked out Le Crepes. I had tried a savory crepe from this food stall a couple of months back and the crepes were really small / thin but today’s crepe was delicious - it was thick and there was plenty of it. Mum & I shared the special butter nutmeg apple crepe ($10) On the menu it had in brackets ‘like apple pie’ - I’d have to say it didn’t quite taste like an apple pie but it was tasty and you’ll like it if you like sweetened cooked fruit. We also sampled the cinnamon and sugar crepe which tasted just like a hot sugar coated cinnamon donut (yum!).

Other crepes on offer:

Sweet crepes
*nutella
* lemon & sugar
* maple syrup

Savory crepes
* ham, cheese & tomato
* mushroom
* cheese & tomato

Special crepes
* Roasted almond, banana, cream & maple syrup

The sweet & savory crepes cost $4 for a small, $6 for a large. Special crepes are only available in one size and cost $10.

After buying our fruits and veg (love the stall towards the end of the market), my mum was very keen for a massage but there was a 15 minute wait so we wandered around the markets with our very heavy green bags until we couldn’t take it no more and settled down at the benches, where we were offered crushed orange juice to sample. This tempted us to buy a regular crushed orange juice which is essentially a slushy made out of fresh orange juice ($5 each). We were a bit surprised by the taste though, as the batch we got tasted bitter, and the sample we had was sweet. Nevertheless it was refreshing.

I made sure I didn’t have breakfast this morning and I’m glad I didn’t as I was very satisfied with my foodie finds at the Subiaco Farmers Market today. I would have tried the yoghurt from WaikikaMooCow if I had room!

The Subiaco Farmers Market are held every Saturday 8am - 12:30pm @ Subiaco Primary School, 271 Bagot Road. You can find out more on the Subiaco Farmers Market website.

  1. I can recommend the mushroom crepe, and I’ve also had one with mixed berries and creme anglais that was might fine. I love how this market inspires me to have second and third breakfasts. I don’t need much encouragement though, it’s fair to say.

    • ooh mixed berries sounds yum! I did see the mushroom one being made, will recommend that to my mum next time we head there (I’m a selective mushroom eater…I like the ones that don’t have a strong ‘mushroom’ taste, if that makes sense). Was tempted to go back there tomorrow, but I had stocked my fridge up with enough fruit & veg to last us a couple of weeks :)
