Pink’s & Carneys in LA, America’s best hot dogs!
There’s just something about eating Hot Dogs in the states, maybe it’s from watching all the American TV shows growing up which makes it so appealing and such a novelty. So on our honeymoon last year, hot dogs were on our top eat list and we sure ate a lot of hot dogs in the month or so we were there!
Of all the hot dogs we had I’d have to say LA had the best! If you happen to go to LA, Pink’s and Carneys are musts for Hot Dogs.
Pink’s (709 N. La Brea, Los Angeles)
Our cousins Tiff, Alex & Wei took us there after a few drinks @ the Roosevelt which has a very funky cocktail lounge which makes some awesome quirky cocktails. burger boy had a cocktail with Tabasco sauce in it!
Pink closes at 2am during the week and 3am Friday & Saturdays - I can’t remember what night we went but it was an hour before closing time and the line was massive! Pink’s hot dogs were so tasty…pic of my hot dog is in the gallery - I can’t remember which one I had but I think it’s got pastrami or bacon in it and I covered it in ketchup after I took the photo. burger boy had the chili cheese dog which looked amazing, what they call ‘chili’ in LA was more like a curry sauce rather than actually the ‘hot / spicy’ sauce we refer to as chilli here in Australia - wish I had taken a pic of it but this time last year, the thought of a food blog hadn’t even crossed my mind despite our family & friends labelling our honeymoon photo book ‘The Cook Book’…
Besides being absolutely delicious, Pink’s is cheap as, hot dogs start from $3.30 - I’ve scanned the menu in and I’m sure you can find it on their website also www.pinkshollywood.com.
If you’re not heading to LA, there’s also a Pink’s in Las Vegas @ Planet Hollywood Hotel.
Carneys (West Hollywood 8351 Sunset Blvd)
My other favourite hot dog place in LA is Carneys which pretty much looks like a trailer van / train on the side of the road.
Carneys specialises both in hamburgers (all served with chili, onions, tomatoes, pickles & mustard) and hot dogs, so no surprises as to what burger boy had I of course, had a Carney’s hot dog $3.55 which had chili, mustard, tomato, onions (I did take the onions out though).
For less than $10 burger boy and I were completely stuff and in absolute foodie heaven. The burger & hot dog tasted as good as they looked!
If you watch Entourage, you would have already heard of Pink’s and Carneys as Vinny Chase and his entourage often mention it in the show. Both are must eats if you’re going to LA!
