Philly Slim’s Cheesesteak in New York - love at first bite…
One bite was all it took - burger boy and I were hooked! We didn’t even know what a Philly Cheese Steak was until Corey on his food on foot tour took us to Philly Slim’s Cheesesteak (789 9TH AVENUE - 52nd & 9th, NYC) which is this little eatery in Hell’s Kitchen, it’s not a place you would sit and eat at, more buy and eat outside or as you walk.
The Philly Cheese Steak was absolutely amazing and for those of you who haven’t had one, it is like a roast beef roll except with cheese melted through the beef and I’m not sure what sauce they use but it is much better than gravy and I love gravy. Throughout our 5 week travel through America, we didn’t find one philly cheese steak the same as Philly Slim’s so if you are ever in New York City, Philly Slim’s Cheesesteak is a must visit - just make sure you check out their opening hours as one out of the many times we went there it was closed.
More on New York City foodie finds next time! If you’re heading to America sometime soon, send me a message or comment and I’ll give you a list of restaurants / casual eateries we discovered and loved.

I’m going to NY in May… what food places would you recommend?
NYC is awesome! burger boy and I were there for a week and a week just wasn’t enough time to eat / see everything. Here’s some food recommendations Chris:
MUST TRY
* Lombardi’s in Little Italy (32 Spring Street) for calzones and pizzas - it’s open for lunch and dinner and is a really ‘Italian’ casual restaurant with the red and white checkered table cloths. The calzone was none like I’ve ever had before, the pastry/dough was thin / cooked to perfection in the over, the cheese melted all through the filling and it just tasted amazing.
* 5 Napkin Burgers (we went to the one in Hells Kitchen - 630 9th Ave) - the burger patties / cheese just melted in our mouths. Good range of beer, casual restaurant which looks like a ‘dressed up’ diner.
* Philly Slim’s goes without saying
WORTH TRYING JUST IF YOU’RE IN THE AREA
* Patzeria Perfect Pizza 231 West 46th Street (46th & 8th) - the ham & cheese pizza scrolls were scrumptious (more of a take-away, walk and eat kind of place), it’s rated # 4 restaurant in NYC on Trip Adviser
* Yum Yum Too 662 9th Avenue (corner of 46th St) - Thai restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, food was tasty but portions were medium-sized so depends how hungry you are.
Thanks for the places to eat.. I can’t wait to try the italian place… sounds good!
Awesome, have fun and let me know how you find it!
