Ruby’s Bakehouse – not just a bakery!

Nestled away in the southern suburbs of Leeming, Ruby’s Bakehouse is owned and run by Anna Judd. After years of being a stay at home mum who enjoyed baking and preparing meals for her own family, she decided to venture out into her own business. A little over a year old, Ruby’s Bakehouse has quickly established itself as a firm favourite within the communityRubys_Bakehouse_Frontage
With adequate parking out the front and a cosy and intimate dining setting, it makes sense for it to be a favourite with a mix of locals. The particular morning I went, every table was full; from groups of mums to twenty something year olds. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the service was quick and efficient.  Coffee, dine in or take away is only $3.50 a cup – brilliant.

The other great appeal for me is there is an excellent playground within walking distance of the café. Fenced off and shaded by large sails, Ruby’s has great takeaway options, which mean I can enjoy my cake and coffee whilst supervising my son in the lovely outdoors.

Although my initial thoughts were that Ruby’s was just a bakery, it offers so much more. The food is made from scratch and from what I saw and sampled, it all looks and tastes divine. Anna also supports local business with all of their meat sourced from Leeming Quality Meats, the butcher in the area. Cupcakes sold in store are from the bakery next door.

The menu offers breakfast and lunch options such as sandwiches and cakes. Baked pies are available and their golden lids with crispy, flaky pasty are hard to bypass. Gravy laden roast beef rolls are just $6, and are the perfect lunch option during these cold winter months.

I actually went back the following day and took home one of the ready prepared meals. What’s on offer varies and this particular week was apricot chicken and tuna pasta bake. I was delighted because it meant a night off from cooking and apricot chicken is an old family favourite for my husband so it was win win for me. They are very affordable, ranging in price from $9.90 – $12.

The meal was neatly presented in a foil container, so this meant I could simply turn on the oven, remove the lid and leave it to cook/reheat for 20mins. Easy.

Chicken, mash with onion and a vegetable muffin, it made for a decent sized meal. My husband exclaimed upon his first mouthful, “This is how my mum use to make it”. The mash was smooth and creamy with a lovely hint of onion that had been whipped through it. The muffin was a tasty addition and reheated well.

Very happy to have been invited to check out Ruby’s Bakehouse. I will be heading back there again soon to try some of the other tasty looking meals on offer there. Catering is also available which is something to keep in mind for your next function or event.

Open Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday 8am – 2pm.

I love socialising and eating so if I can combine the two, it’s a match made in heaven. Always like to try somewhere new but can’t beat eating Vietnamese or Japanese food at a local haunt. I’m excited to explore more of what Perth has to offer and will base my reviews on food, service and the atmosphere of a restaurant.
