Review: Yarra Valley Tea Co. Teas

0

I’m a big fan of tea of all sorts, due to my caffeine sensitivity and aversion to milk. Being raised in an Asian family, tea is something that’s close to my heart – growing up, we had sweet iced chrysanthemum tea in summer, hot Chinese tea at family dim sum, and home-brewed herbal Chinese Wong Lo Kat and artichoke tea every so often to keep immunity up. I acquired a preference for bitter tea and have favoured strong, robust teas over light and fruity ones, however do appreciate the latter nonetheless.

I saw the growing demand for creative teas soar with the rise of health and fitness trends in Australia. Left right and centre people were buying detox teas to flatten bloated stomachs and innovative blends with superfood benefits to maximise health and well being. I was interested, but never enough to go out of way way to try any, but recently got the chance to sample some awesome blends by Yarra Valley Tea Co.

A lot of the time when I buy tea, the packaging omits a lot of interesting and important information about the tea. It’s also recyclable so you know Yarra Valley Tea Co. are doing their bit for the environment. That and the actual tea bags, called ‘pyramids’ due to its shape, are also 100% biodegradable. Yarra Valley Tea Co. also hand blend in small batches and package their pyramids right here in Australia, so every purchase helps sustain our Aussie growers and businesses.

Nod Off – Organic Sleep Tea

Yarra Valley Tea Co.’s most popular blend, crafted to assist you into a great night’s sleep, is made of Certified Organic linden flower, elderflower, chamomile and, most interestingly, biodynamic apples grown right in Victoria! You can see the bits of dehydrated apple in the tea bags that add a really lovely hint of tart sweetness to the smooth blend of teas. This was a winner and definitely did a great job at calming the mind and body before bed.

Steep 1 pyramid for 5-10 minutes or longer depending on how strong you like your tea (recommended 10 or more minutes). Drink at least one hour before bed.

Digest It – Organic Tummy Tea

This pyramid boasts a blend of Certified Organic chamomile, lemongrass and peppermint to aid with digestion and soothe the tummy. My boyfriend who often suffers from tummy issues really liked the taste of this blend and found that it did indeed calm his digestive issues. Personally for me I found the peppermint a little too overpowering but that could just be down to personal taste.

The recommended steeping time for this tea: 3-5 minutes or more depending on how strong you like your tea per 1 pyramid.

New You Detox – Organic Cleanse Tea

This blend was my personal favourite out of the three blends sampled. The taste was a very neutral, wholesome tea without any strong hits of any spicy or fruity notes which made it very palatable. Crafted with Certified Organic dandelion leaf & root with elderflower, candelula, nettle birch and raspberry leaf, this blend is perfect for aiding with cleansing your insides from weekend nasties like caffeine, alcohol and saturated fats.

The recommended steeping time for this tea: 3-5 minutes or more depending on how strong you like your tea per 1 pyramid.
