Getting frisky with cocktails at Frisk after dinner at Ha-Lu for our wedding anni

burger boy and I had to really think hard to work out which wedding anniversary we were up to and gee 3 years has gone fast. We celebrated of course with food :) our night started with dinner at our favourite Japanese restaurant Ha-Lu followed by cocktails at Frisk Small Bar.

We love our cooked Japanese dishes and Ha-Lu do these really well so our love for them continues to blossom. We’ve been to Ha-Lu heaps (you can read my Ha-Lu review here) and we’re always impressed so I thought rather than write another review, I’d just share photos from our anniversary dinner…

We rolled out of Ha-Lu with little room left to fill but we had received a lovely email from Frisk Small Bar in Northbridge to try their cocktails that night. Plus, what better way to celebrate our wedding anniversary than at our favourite Japanese restaurant and some sneaky week day cocktails (yep, the following day was a bit of a struggle at work).

Frisk Small Bar wasn’t always a small bar, as most Perthies will know the process of getting a liquor license here is tough so Frisk’s first year was as coffee baristas and it was only just last year that they received their liquor license and transformed into the small bar we know. burger boy and I’s first experience of Frisk was actually thanks to our love for Lacker’s Grill which sadly is no longer open. Lacker’s Grill and Frisk had an arrangement where food was delivered to Frisk. This was perfect for us as we could enjoy our favourite Lacker’s Grill pork ribs with the extensive drinks list and cool ambience of Frisk. Frisk did tell us that they are in process of teaming up with another Northbridge restaurant which will be awesome as although Frisk does do some snacks it’s not a full dinner menu.

Anyway moving back to our evening :) Sitting at the bar, burger boy and I were entertained by the venue manager Will Holland who told us “the key to a good cocktail was balance as well as having a passion for the art and knowing what you’re doing.”

My La Bella cocktail ($18) – campari, lemoncello, orange, shaked and strained. If you like lemoncello you’ll like this cocktail, it is pretty strong though!

burger boy’s Friskatini cocktail ($17)- gin, peach, chambord, cucumber and cranberry. I had a serious case of cocktail envy but burger boy wouldn’t give up his cocktail ;) The Friskatini was sweet and light – I loved the refreshing cucumber.

One of us had to drive so burger boy had another cocktail, the Sipsmith Martini ($19) – Sipsmith Gin, Vermouth and a grapefruit twist, whilst I had a glass of water ;)

I love the intimate setting at Frisk Small Bar, it has it’s own character and we enjoyed our cocktails. Thanks for having us Frisk and making our wedding anniversary a little bit friskier ;)

    What a wonderful way to spend your anniversary! I love Japanese! And those cocktails look divine!

      It was so nice to sit down and just talk – Ha-Lu’s intimate setting was perfect for d&ms and i find watching cocktails being made entertaining :)

    Love love love Ha-Lu. We must head back there, haven’t been there in a couple of years. And how nice were the cocktails at Frisk!?! We dropped in there Friday night and suffice to say I also found it a bit tough at work the next day!
