Reflecting on 2012 as our Crust turns one

I knew the first year of starting our own business would change our lifestyle, it just hadn’t sunk in as to how much until we opened our pizza doors the week of Australia Day 2012. Pizza, beer and Australia Day all seem to come hand in hand so we had to learn the pizza making business really fast. In the first couple of weeks, there were plenty of 12+ hour days. In the first 3 months,  a lot of time was spent writing notes/procedures and learning from our mistakes. In the first 6 months and to this day, burger boy and I spend a lot of time fine tuning processes and finding ways to improve our business.

For those of you looking to open your own business – yes it is hard at first but it all comes together if you put your all into what you believe in and most importantly those who support your business. For those who have your own business, you know exactly what I mean and thank you for all your advice/support as burger boy and I ventured into our first.

Now looking back to 2012, I feel so proud of my burger boy for putting in all that hard work to get the business to where it is now. At the beginning I was worried about not having one of us there every trading minute, if it wasn’t for burger boy “letting go” we’d still be working every day & night.

Besides all the serious amount of learning and eating out because we didn’t have the time/energy to cook, we had our fair share of fun. What I love about having our own business is that it’s what you make of it, I was excited to have the opportunity to create my own Masterchef inspired pizza challenge at the 2012 Beaufort Street Festival.

Crust facebook fans Eva The Machine, Mz Tiff, Pam of Beaufort Realty, food blogger Perth Munchkin and Chris, a contestant selected from the Beaufort Street Festival crowd battled it out on-stage in a dough rolling race and pizza invention test to take home a giant crust cheque which cashes in as a pizza party for 10.
