Celebrating mushie’s engagement with vino & pork belly at The George

In celebration of mushie’s engagement we went to The George for lunch.

It was a good choice as we didn’t have to walk too far and this is an important lunch criteria with the random weather we’ve been having in Perth lately and the $25 lunch specials all looked delicious – I had exactly $25 in cash on me which was very convenient :)

The lunch special included a glass of house wine or a schooner of pale ale and the option of the following mains:

  • Potato, olives, bean tomato with candied speck (bacon), frisse;
  • Slow braised beef ragout, rocket and feta;
  • Ras el hanout spiced snapper, tomato escabeche and green beans; or
  • Twice cooked pork belly, green paw paw salad, fried shallots, red nam jim.

I was deciding between the beef and the pork belly…I was close to choosing the beef because mushie was having the pork belly but I went with my “gut” and went with the pork in the end.

The pork belly was delicious, it wasn’t a huge dish but it was exactly what I felt like. It was light yet tasty and most importantly we were able to toast mushie’s engagement all within our 1 hour lunch break.

I was impressed that The George was able to persuade me to eat the paw paw salad with their delicious flavourings, I don’t usually eat paw paw and there were bean sprouts in the salad – but it was pretty easy to pick out.

I had been to The George a couple of times for lunch but thought of it more as a place to be for drinks so my recent lunch has changed my mind – I’ll def be there again for their lunch specials. Plus the service was wonderful and most importantly on a work day – quick!

    We have eaten and drank at The George a number of times and really enjoyed ourselves which led us to choose this venue for our Engagement party. The standard of the function food was excellent but unfortunately at the end of the night service standards dropped precipitously when some staff members were quite rude to my guests.

      Oh no that’s not good! I’ve had inconsistency with the service at The George too, booked a table for 10 for a friend’s birthday and it took forever for the ‘surprise’ dessert with candles to come out. And service wasn’t as good as when I go there with just a few people. But yes food is always great.
